I'm going to be busy for a while, so I though I might as well finish posting the other fanart I did during my recent absence online.
As much as I love Final Fantasy 7, VI is my favorite Final Fantasy of all time. FFVI always brings me a nostalgic feeling. When I picture FF series, this is the one that comes up in my mind. Perhaps because it's set in a world where there is a certain balance between magic and technology, or maybe because of the grand opera feel to the whole story. I don't know. I just love it.
Terra(or Tina in the Japenese version) is my most favorite character in FF6(or 3 in the old SNES system in America) besides Sabin(or Mesh -not sure about this spelling). There are many memorable characters in VI, but for me, she represents VI.
Beautiful and mysterious... Being born from human and esper, Terra had a deep struggle with her identity. Because of her birth, she was used like a weapon by greedy humans, and later, rescued by resistance, she slowly regains her humanity...
And another reason she's my favorit: she can TRANSFORM! That's so cool(Dragon Ball was a bad influence on me). Of course, at a later level when her normal attacks do 9999 damage, this ability becomes kinda pointless, but still so cool.
One thing I don't understand about FFVI is the name changes when they were translated to English. Why Tina to Terra? Why Mesh to Sabin? I actually prefer Terra to Tina because I feel that it suits her better, but Tina is a perfectly fine name, so why change the original? Same thing with Sabin. Was there a Square conspiracy to confuse consumers back then? As if changing the title from 6 to 3 wasn't confusing enough...(Although the title number had to be changed, because they didn't release in the US the other FFs before it.)
I hear that they're releasing a remake. Even though I'll probably never get to play it, I'd love to see it when it comes out.

Such a great intro to a game.

My only memories of Terra are getting lost at Figaro castle, deleting the ROM, then playing Dissidia.
I'm a yutz.
But I'm also an avid FF fan! I love you for this pic, man!
Terra. The only character that's her own summon. Esperkin for life!

I hear the translator changed "Tina" to "Terra" to make her name sound more exotic. I didnt know that Sabin had a different name in Japanese though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this game is the true Jewel in the Crown of the FF franchise. VI and IX are infinitely better than most of the other games combined.

They changed the name 'Tina' to 'Terra' to make it sound mysterious and exotic. In Japan, simple Western names like 'Tina' do sound mysterious and foreign; here, the effect would have been lost. So Ted Woolsey changed the name to 'Terra' to keep the effect.

As for 'Mash' to 'Sabin', I have no idea.

Cleverbot: How large?
Me: As big as Ron Jeremy's.
Cleverbot: Really.
Me. No kidding.

We were talking about my mustache, of course.

The reason for the name changes was because at the time, Tina was a common name on the west coast. They chose Terra to make her sound more unique, and to also go along more fluently with Celes who's name was derived from the word Celestial.

Sabin..I'm not too sure, maybe to keep people from asking "Why Mesh?"

A lot of things were not too looked upon back in the 90's.

That's changed today and since the west coast has become more open minded and not everything has to be "Americanized", translations have started to become more traditional and true to it's original Asian roots.

Wonderful work, Terra is also my favorite as well <3
